JON AMOR
UK Guitarist’s New Cd Features Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant

TUCSON’S
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1ST at 8:00 p.m.

Ottawa, ON – UK guitar sensation, Jon Amor returns to Ottawa to perform with his band at Tucson’s (Bank & Hunt Club) on Saturday, November 1 at 8:00 Pm.

Part of the new British Invasion, Jon Amor is one of a number of up and coming UK based artists that are making a major impact in the North American market alongside such stars as Coldplay, Oasis, KT Tunstall and Amy Winehouse. A former guitarist in The Hoax, one of the most successful British blues/rock bands in recent years, Jon Amor gone on to make a name for himself as a songwriter and front man with his solo project. His new Cd “Unknown Soldier” features a special guest appearance by none other than Robert Plant, the legendary Led Zeppelin singer. The Cd was also produced by Plant’s producer Stephen Evans and showcases drummer Clive Dreamer, who is best know for his beats with Portishead and Roni Size.

Amor is excited to be returning to Canada and Ottawa in particular to follow up his stellar show this summer at Ottawa Bluesfest that saw the crowd rise to their feet in ovation of the band’s performance. He also performed to great response at the Thunder Bay Blues Festival in July with his band that features local drummer Andrew Lamarche (Carol Pope/David Gogo) and Pat Giunta on bass.

As part of his Canadian tour, Jon will share the stage as part of a package with Tom Wilson (Junkhouse/Blackie & The Rodeo Kings) and Barney Bentall in Calgary and Edmonton . He has also just been hand picked as the support for U.S. guitar wizard, Joe Bonamassa for three sold out theatres shows later this month in Oakville , Brampton and St. Catherines.

Artists work it together

Jon Amor - Photo by: Brian Goldschmied By Lynn Saxberg

Another highlight of yesterday’s daytime festivities was a performance by British guitarist Jon Amor, who demonstrated the fruits of his own made-in-Ottawa collaboration. In a crisp white shirt, Amor, who grew up a few kilometers from Stonehenge. made a terrific impression on the River stage, thanks in part to the Ottawa band that accompanied him.

As the tall, skinny Brit blazed the frets, pledging his allegiance to electric blues-rock, a rhythm section made up of Ottawa bassist Pat Giunta and drummer Andrew Lamarche made sure his playing was given a maximum punch. On songs like Rose Coloured Glasses and I Can’t Keep Living Like This, two of the expressive anthems from his latest disc, Unknown Soldier, they were cooking.

Mind you, Amor has a knack for getting along with people. One high-profile gues on his disc is Robert Plant, who dropped by the studio to contribute some bluesy harmonica.
