David Gogo Wins Maple Blues Award

For Immediate Release

Victoria, British Columbia – Blues guitarist David Gogo has just been announced as the winner of this year’s”Maple Blues Award” for “Guitarist of the Year“, an honour that he is very pleased to receive. He would like to thank all of the fans who voted for him.

The Nanaimo, BC resident was in Toronto this past weekend to attend the Maple Blues Awards at the Phoenix Concert Theatre. He was nominated for two awards, including “Entertainer of The Year” and “Guitarist of The Year“. This is the second time he has been named “Guitarist of the Year” getting the nod in previously in 2003.

Love In The City“, the first single from Gogo’s acclaimed new Cd Vibe (Cordova Bay/Maple Music/Universal), a track he co-wrote with and features Tom Wilson from Blackie & The Rodeo Kings and Junkhouse fame. The hit single cracked the Top 35 (BDS) at rock radio stations across the country and went to # 1 on CHWF (The Wolf) in his hometown, an impressive feat these days for a blues artist on an indie label. David Gogo is the first blues/rock guitar oriented artist to experience national success on the commercial radio charts since Jeff Healey, who makes a guest appearance on Vibe, and more recently, Colin James.

Gogo spent the better part of October and November 2004 on the road performing a nationwide theatre tour with the legendary Downchild Blues Band. He also headlined a string of his own dates throughout Ontario and Quebec while performing two sold out shows in support of Little Feat. Not one to sit idle, Gogo is preparing for another yet to be announced trek across the country as well as a trip to Austin, TX in March to attend the SXSW music conference, where he hopes to catch the attention of the American music industry. Europe is also in his sights for 2005 as the buzz at home has created interest overseas in seeing him return to perform on the European summer festival circuit.
2004 was not only a busy year for Gogo in preparation for the release of his own album but somehow between touring and the recording studio, he found time to make a guest appearance on Downchild’s new Cd Come On In as well as popular Quebec singer Bob Walsh’s latest release A Canadian Blues Rendez-Vous, recorded live at the 25th Anniversary of the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal.

David Gogo is currently hard at work re-mixing his second single “Cry Harder“, a tune he wrote with Craig Northey (The Odds/Colin James). The song is set for a much anticipate release to rock radio in early February.
