October 14, 2004

Ottawa Canada: Ottawa’s premier club, Barrymore’s, presents the Robert Farrell Band Friday, October 22, 2004.

With the recent release of the all instrumental Elegant Chaos, the Robert Farrell Band is making a name for itself as the hottest rock band around. Steve Baylin of Ottawa XPress, in describing Elegant Chaos, writes:

…Andrew Lamarche (drums) and Stephen Clarke (bass) are dialed in from the word go…Robert Farrell’s warm, thick guitar tone is the straw that stirs the sonic drink… (September 2004)

J.J. Antrobus and Amanda Rheaume round out this not to be missed evening.

New Robert Farrell Band Songs Posted

Audio clips from the new Robert Farrell Band CD “Elegant Chaos” are now posted on the audio page.

The CD has already had some good reviews:

Ottawa XPress – Review September 2004 – Just how long can Robert Farrell remain Capital City’s best kept secret? The obvious answer: probably not a whole lot longer, considering the fast and fiery tones of his fifth effort, Elegant Chaos. Unlike records past, the hard driving, full steam ahead grind of Chaos is an all instrumental affair, which works to Farrell’s advantage. The wide open songs allow the guitarist to fully stretch out and explore, six string front and centre, without constraint. Though Andrew Lamarche (drums) and Stephen Clarke (bass) are dialed in from the word go, Farrell’s warm, thick tone is the straw that stirs the sonic drink… By: Steve Baylin

The band will be doing a CD Release Party tonight in Ottawa at the Bayou Jazz & Blues Club on Bank Street.

Summer Update

It’s turned out to be a half-decent summer of gigs. I still wish there were more places to play in town, but all has turned out okay.

Robert Farrell Band - Elegant Chaos“Elegant Chaos” the new Robert Farrell Band CD is currently being mixed at Pebble Studios in Ottawa. We recorded it at the end of June and it is an instrumental album, I will post clips on the audio page once it’s done. Same line up with Robert Farrell on guitar and Stephen Clarke on bass. It’s sounding great so far, and we did it the same way as “Sun House Fury – Part 1”, we just went in and wrote and worked on everything on the spot, very few overdubs or anything rehearsed. The next live date for the RFB is in September in Ottawa for the CD release and we’ll be playing some of the new instrumental tracks.

I’ve been having a great time playing with blues guitarist David Gogo and band. Lots of good outdoor summer gigs and festivals opening for the Tragically Hip and George Thorogood so far. The band rocks with David on guitar and Stephen Wood on bass and Julian St. Martin on keys. More dates coming up so check my Live Dates page for updates.

Also just finished the artwork for Steve Gardiner’s new CD “Sonic Leveling.” I didn’t play on the CD but am part of the live band. More gigs coming soon including a CD Release Party in the near future.

I’ve also been busy doing various sessions around Ottawa with a few different artists. The studio scene has drastically changed the last few years but it’s always cool working for different people on their music.
