Robert Farrell Band National Runner-Up in 3 Categories

OTTAWA: The results are out. After hundreds of nominations and thousands of votes from over twenty countries we now have the winners.

Robert Farrell Band (rfb) took Canada’s runner-up spot in the Band category with the track Blind. Lead singer and guitarist, Robert Farrell was awarded runner-up for Canada’s Best Male Solo Artist and the country’s Best Songwriter with the track Heatseeker.

Both tracks can be found on rfb’s Sun House Fury Part I which is available at www.mymusic.com and www.robertfarrell.com.

Robert and rfb are now in the studio recording their upcoming album as well as getting ready to compete in the 23rd Annual International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee, February 1-3, 2007. rfb is representing Southeastern Ontario in the Band category.

Summer Update

It’s turned out to be a half-decent summer of gigs. I still wish there were more places to play in town, but all has turned out okay.

Robert Farrell Band - Elegant Chaos“Elegant Chaos” the new Robert Farrell Band CD is currently being mixed at Pebble Studios in Ottawa. We recorded it at the end of June and it is an instrumental album, I will post clips on the audio page once it’s done. Same line up with Robert Farrell on guitar and Stephen Clarke on bass. It’s sounding great so far, and we did it the same way as “Sun House Fury – Part 1”, we just went in and wrote and worked on everything on the spot, very few overdubs or anything rehearsed. The next live date for the RFB is in September in Ottawa for the CD release and we’ll be playing some of the new instrumental tracks.

I’ve been having a great time playing with blues guitarist David Gogo and band. Lots of good outdoor summer gigs and festivals opening for the Tragically Hip and George Thorogood so far. The band rocks with David on guitar and Stephen Wood on bass and Julian St. Martin on keys. More dates coming up so check my Live Dates page for updates.

Also just finished the artwork for Steve Gardiner’s new CD “Sonic Leveling.” I didn’t play on the CD but am part of the live band. More gigs coming soon including a CD Release Party in the near future.

I’ve also been busy doing various sessions around Ottawa with a few different artists. The studio scene has drastically changed the last few years but it’s always cool working for different people on their music.

“From Ottawa comes guitar playing that is steeped in Louisiana swamps, Texas hills and Chi-Town back alleys. Robert Farrell’s voice has a more alt rock edge and his songwriting stretches beyond the typical blues rock path. Stand out songs include “Blind,” “Heatseeker” and the boogie fueled instrumental “Slidewinder” in which Robert flat out smokes on the slide.
