Order of the Day and Bud Select

Canadian Band Selected To Promote US Beer

Ottawa, ON-based hard rock band Order of the Day joins Stereophonics, Jars of Clay and Rhys Fulber (Delerium) as one of only 15 artists selected to promote Bud Select, a new full-bodied, bold tasting beer from Budweiser available only in the US. The band was asked to submit two songs, Pretty Things and What Are You Waiting For, from their début EP Truth Be Told, which is scheduled for release in April 2006. The songs, as well as the music of the 14 other artists, will be featured at www.budtune.com, a website developed by VerveLife, the industry leading developer of branded digital music experiences, based in Chicago, IL.

The promotion, which is taking place in the United States, will see 10,000 vouchers, redeemable for 5 free downloads each (a total of 50,000 downloads!), distributed in bars and nightclubs across the country. Recipients will then be able to choose 5 songs to download from the 15 artists featured on www.budtune.com.

Hey America, This Bud’s For You

Order of the Day has contributed two songs, Pretty Things and What Are You Waiting For?, to a promotional campaign for Bud Select, a new full-bodied, bold tasting beer from Budweiser. 10,000 vouchers are being handed out in bars and nightclubs across the US starting today. Each voucher is good for 5 free song downloads at www.budtune.com, for a total of 50,000 downloads. There are 15 artists being featured in the campaign and some of the others are Stereophonics, Jars of Clay, Rhys Fulber of Delerium and Leigh Nash of Sixpence None the Richer.

The first 5 cities being targeted are Chapel Hill, NC, Indianapolis, IN, Gainesville, FL, Baton Rouge, LA, and Lawrence KS. The campaign was developed by VerveLife, a digital music branding company in Chicago, IL. Every major market in the US will be hit in the next few weeks, so keep your eyes open for the download vouchers.

Songwriter beats out 400 entries, becomes Bear’s Radio Star

To thousands of people who listen to The Bear radio station, Lawson Carroll’s song, I’m Ugly Cause You’re Beautiful, has the potential to be a hit. After weeks of online voting and deliberation by a panel of Ottawa-area music industry judges, it was announced yesterday as the regional winner in the Canadian Radio Star contest, formerly known as the National Songwriting Competition.

The catchy song, marked by an infectious drum loop and a soaring hook and performed by Carroll’s band Velvetbox, was one of 400 entries submitted to The Bear, said the station’s music director, Kath Thompson. For the first time, voting was open to the public, and more than 10,000 people cast votes for their favourite of the top five finalists.

Velvetbox has just won the eastern ontario chapter of the National Songwriting Competition! The song, “I’m Ugly ’cause You’re Beautiful” was named the winner this morning on 106.9 The Bear radio station in Ottawa! Now, Velvetbox will be showcasing to the record industry in front of thousands of music fans in Toronto during the Canadian Music Week as they go for the grand prize for all of Canada!

Velvetbox – Top Five Finalists in National Songwriting Competition

Well, last year the Velvetbox song, “Violet in the Snow” was the runner up in the National Songwriting Competition….and this year …”I’m Ugly ’cause You’re Beautiful” was just named one of the top five finalists!!!

One small difference though… PEOPLE CAN ACTUALLY VOTE THIS YEAR!!!

David Gogo Nominated for “Electric Act of The Year” at the Maple Blues Awards

David Gogo LogoDavid Gogo has been nominated for “Electric Act of The Year” at the Maple Blues Awards this year.

The Maple Blues Awards, Canada’s national award programme that promotes and recognizes outstanding achievement in blues music, has announced their nominees for 2005. The nominees are selected by a distinguished panel of blues experts from across Canada, and winners are selected by the votes of Canadian blues fans.

Please cast your votes for David. Where David is not officially nominated, you can still cast your vote for him by selecting the “Other” category and entering David Gogo. Suggested categories are “Guitarist of The Year”, “Entertainer of The Year”, “Songwriter of The Year” and “Album of The Year” for his new Cd “Vibe”.

Voting is online from November 14th until December 14th 2005 at www.mapleblues.ca.
