February Update

One of Aaron Saloman‘s tracks I played on, “Muse’s Whip” will be track of the day at Garageband.com, in the hard rock genre, tomorrow, Thursday, February 7th. If you want to hear any of Aaron’s other music see his MP3.com page.

There’s some new photos on the THERMOclinE site, and I posted a video clip of THERMO from Breakfast@the The NewRO on my video page.

THERMOclineE Update

Andrew Lamarche 2002Just finished recording some tracks for the upcoming THERMOclinE album, we also had some TV stuff last week. I’ll try and get some video up soon. You can download a MP3 sample of the new version of “Vacant Lot” off the THERMOclinE site, which features Steve Gardiner on vocals.

And here’s a photo of my new Pearl Kit. That’s at about 7am at the Breakfast @ The NewRO show we did last week in Ottawa.

New Year Update

The new year has started, there have been many ups and downs in the last few months, hopefully this will be the start of a good year.

Lots of THERMOclinE stuff coming up in the next week and a bit, lots of TV stuff. Have a look at the live dates page for updated events. We have already started working on new songs for a new CD that we’ll hopefully be doing soon. My long time friend Jay Ruston has stepped in to play bass for us, and it’s been great. I have worked with Jay producing in the studio so many times, but it’s cool to play with him now (Jay co-produced the last THERMOclinE record).

I am now using Pearl Drums, I just got a beautiful Masters Studio BRX (Birch) kit and a few new snare drums, everything is cool, very well built and great sounding drums. Check my gear page for what I’m using (I haven’t updated the graphic yet!). I should have some photos soon.
Charley Beck Band

Other shows coming up this month is the Charley Beck (AKA: Sarah Sedgman) CD Release Party at Barrymore’s in Ottawa on January 25th.

November Update

Just completed recording for Sarah Sedgman‘s upcoming album. Look for a CD release party in January 2002.

I also was in the studio with Robert Farrell, tracking some music for a instructional video for a sports product.

The Artificial Joy Club web site is back up, thanks to Craig Schock who has been looking after the server where it’s hosted. I still get quite a bit of e-mail about Artificial Joy Club. The site doesn’t have anything new on it, it’s just up for all the fans who are looking for it.

I have been using the Pearl Rythm Traveler Kit for The Long Goners gigs and some rehearsals. It’s very cool and it’s really portable. It is quite good sounding as well, for the size of the drums, they are very punchy and have good attack. I’m hoping to try it out in the studio some time soon.

Jason Young

After I posted this the first time, I am having so many memories and thoughts. I have personally had so many calls and e-mails from friends, fans and musicians. I also maintain the band website and generic mail accounts, I have been forwarding the e-mails we have been getting to the rest of the band.

We are bringing one of Jay’s basses to the wake to put with our flowers. We talked about it as a band today, and we decided if it were us, we would want a piece of our lives there as well that people would remember.

Jay in no way seemed to me as if he was having trouble or distressed in any way. He was the same as all of us, trying to do stuff to make money to pay bills — basically he was living life like all of us. Sometimes we have no money to pay bills, to do something fun, whatever. It’s life and we all deal with it and live with it.

I’m not the only one who can not understand why he would take his own life. It doesn’t make sense. So many people have said that they could never imagine Jay doing that. And some of these people have only met or talked to Jay very few times.
We have used the band site and I use my site only for positive stuff, I never thought I would be sitting here writing stuff like this.

Today when I was doing the picture of Jay for the THERMO site, it was some of the deepest sadness I have ever felt. When we wrote the statement as a band and proofread it over and over I could only cry. I am trying not to. We are human, we have feelings and I am not afraid to show — I am sad, confused, hurt and even broken hearted over this. And I am sharing it with you.

I know the music and the shows we played as a band will live on in memory and spirit. This was part of Jay. Music is a big part of all our lives, even if we don’t know that. It really doesn’t matter if you like it or not, it was/is an artistic and creative moment in time.

Peace,

Jason Young

Jason YoungThe rest of THERMOclinE and myself are devastated by the loss of our friend and bandmate, Jason Young.

Please see the THERMOclinE site to share our message in memory of a dear friend, to all who met him.

I remember the first time I met Jay, I was playing with Artificial Joy Club, and from the first time we met, I could see and feel his passion and desire to play music, but even greater than that he had a passion for life.

Jason was a big part of THERMOclinE, he did look after a lot of the business stuff, he loved calling people, trying to get stuff happening for the band. When it came to the business part of music for the band, Jay had a big part in it.

He loved to talk, he would strike up a conversation with anybody. We would be playing a gig somewhere, and guaranteed you would see Jay always talking to someone.
I also remember many of the very long telephone conversations we would have. He could talk for hours about his thoughts, ideas and hopes for the band and what we could and should do. He was also very direct when there was something we didn’t do and made it a point to be sure we did it the next time.

We had many very exciting times together as a band, we had our share of good shows but we also did have the bad ones. We always kicked ass no matter what. Nothing was going to get in our way.

I admired the perfectionist qualities in Jay, he worked so hard at everything he did.

He would always come up with cool bass parts for the songs, and I can remember rehearsals where I would be telling him to lock in more with me. Telling him to listen to my kick drum or my hi-hats more so we could groove, just music stuff — the bass player/drummer bond.

I will miss him a lot, he was a big part of my music life since April 1998 when I first started playing with him, Aaron and Graham. He definitely made things interesting.

I am happy he was part of my life, and we shared many good times together playing music. I could always count on Jay to come over to my drums when we were playing and spin my cymbals. It’s one of those things that I don’t think anyone else ever noticed, but it did always make us smile.

There is so much I could say and write about him. I will remember him fondly.

We had just had a great weekend of gigs. The American Red Cross benefit in Ottawa, which he had a hand in organizing, and the NOTA music conference in Barrie, ON, we all agreed that the band played great and the vibe was amazing. More so on Saturday night, I thought it was one of the best performances the band has ever done. It was only our third show with our new singer Steve.

I just want to say “Thanks for rockin'” Jay, it was a privilege and an honour to have shared the stage, studio and just hanging out.

June Update

One of the tracks I recorded with Robert Farrell, “Hug Me, Squeeze Me,” is up to number 23 today (in between Linkin Park and Faith Hill) on the MP3.com top 40 chart. You can download some of Robert’s music at MP3.com or check out my MP3.com station that has downloads of artists that I have played with.

A few gigs coming up this week, Wednesday is The Long Goners, a cover band that I have been playing with for the last few weeks, I still tell them I’m filling in, but I think I’m their drummer now. The Long Goners play drinkin’ music, some rock, celtic and a few surprises that I won’t tell you about. Aaron Saloman‘s CD release party is on Thursday at Climax (the old Molly McGuire’s) with opening act Sarah Sedgman (doing an acoustic set). Friday is Robert Farrell at the Whipping Post and Saturday is THERMOclinE at the CHEO BBQ with a few other great bands. Check my gigs page for other upcoming dates.

On the gear side of things, I have started using the new Sabian HHX 14″ Power Hi-hats and the 20″ Power Ride, they sound great, I can’t say enough good things about them. See my gear page for my current cymbal set-up.

THERMOclinE “Vacant Lot” video

You can see the THERMOclinE “Vacant Lot” video on the MuchMusic website right now. If you have some time please take a few minutes and have a look at it.

April went by quite quickly, I had a few sessions including some recording with Spankdriven. I was at Canadian Music Week once again in Toronto at the end of March/beginning of April for some gigs with Tammy. I also attended the Sabian Artist Dinner in Toronto which is always an event in itself and met up with some old friends.

March Update

Aaron Saloman has posted an MP3 track of “Alone In Your Song,” one of the songs I recorded with him back in February. Check out his site (www.aaronmusic.com) for the MP3 and some photos from the session.

Tammy Raybould has been nominated in the “Best New Solo Artist” category at the 2001 Canadian Radio Music Awards for her song “Loving You“. Tammy and band will be doing a few shows during Canadian Music Week in Toronto next weekend.

My my live dates page for upcoming shows, I just removed some upcoming THERMOclinE shows that we had to cancel, due to illness in the band. Check the THERMOclinE site for upcoming news and video/radio request information.

I also did the Jimi Hendrix Tribute show again this year with Tony D, Trevor Finlay, Sean Burke and Sal (Artificial Joy Club) sang a few songs. Barrymore’s was packed for it, this was the third time we’ve done it.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year! I know I haven’t done an update in a while but things have been a bit crazy. Not a lot of live dates the past little while, but other “behind the scenes” kind of stuff going on, and it seems to take up a lot of my time. Learning songs, writing charts, web stuff and my life, etc.

Tammy Raybould and band had it’s first live performance in Ottawa in quite some time last week, the show featured some of Tammy’s new material and over the x-mas holidays I redid her web site (www.tammyraybould.com), which once again I was supposed to do for a long time.

Other exciting news for Tammy is that “Loving You” is being featured on “Dawson’s Creek” Episode #70 (#412 “The Te Of Pacey”) which aired in the U.S. yesterday and in Canada on Friday, January 19th. See the “Dawson’s Creek Music Guide” web site.

THERMOclinE‘s video release party, for “Vacant Lot” is this coming weekend (Jan. 20th @ Barrymore’s Music Hall in Ottawa). I have put a up a 30-second clip of the video on the site. The CD “Negative ONE” is being re-released on Sony Imports/Sour Music/Stamina Records in Canada in March. The radio and video campaign starts in February, stay tuned for more info.

I am also playing and recording with singer/songwriter/guitarist Aaron Saloman. He has some cool stuff going on. And playing bass is my buddy “G-ham” — Andy Graham from the TRB band.

I had a quick little last minute session at the beginning of the year with singer/songwriter Susan Wheatley.

The Sarah Sedgman gig in December was cool, there is a possibility of more dates sometime in the future. The band featured Sarah on acoustic guitar and vocals, Colin Mills (from the TRB band) on guitar, Mike Easton and Mike Yelle from Garrity on acoustic guitar and bass. See Sarah’s web site for more info.

If you haven’t been to my site in a while I’ve started to add some photos (possibly some embarrassing ones!), video and audio stuff. I still have a ton more to put on, just not enough time. Unfortunately because of my rush in doing things there are some broken links, so please be calm and don’t freak out. More stuff will be coming soon.
